DEW DROP INN - THURSDAY NOV 14TH
Amy Reid (BMORE) [mem. of Chiffon]
https://friendsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/hirsute
"Born, raised and based in Baltimore, Amy Reid has been making music and performing since 2010. Baltimore, blossoming with incredible creative people and energy, has been a motivating and supportive force for her musical endeavors. Chiffon, Reid’s current band alongside collaborator Chase O’Hara formed in 2012 and has been performing locally, nationally and in Europe since then. Reid’s solo project was formed when music became a necessary therapy and form of expression for a series of complex life experiences. “These songs felt very personal but, still relatable and emotive,” Reid says. Reid arrived at the title “Hirsute” to reference growth; in terms of relationships with oneself, others held close, and sexuality. “It is a reflection of organic, very human experiences getting tangled with outside factors out of one’s control… These sonic explorations embody experiencing chaos balanced with love and tender moments. Anxiety and serenity.”
Extending beyond Chiffon and her solo work, Reid is the founder of a Baltimore Collective called GRL PWR made up of herself, Pangelica, and Waqia Kareem. GRL PWR aims to create a platform for a diverse array of artist and creatives, specifically: womyn identified, POC, trans, non-binary, femme & queer artists. GRL PWR events have brought together artists from across the US for unique and unforgettable events."
Thanya Iyer [MTL]
https://thanyaiyer.bandcamp.com/
"Thanya Iyer is both a person and a band. Thanya Iyer the person, is 1/3 of Thanya Iyer the band. The other 2/3s are made up of Alex, Dan, and other great friends. Thanya Iyer (the band) has done a lot (released an album, released a mixtape, played at festivals, played in every time zone in North America, etc). Thanya Iyer (the person) has done all this and then some. Thanya Iyer (the person) is a very busy person. Thanya Iyer (the band) is a very busy band and the sound has evolved to reflect this. Thanya Iyer (the band) struggles to define their music (only when asked, they don't think about it the rest of the time) and rather than recite a list of genres and sub-genres, they would rather you just listen and tell them. But for the lazy (or busy) people out there maybe Future-Folk is accurate (or vague) enough? Thanya Iyer (the person and the band) will continue her and their never-ending quest to bring joy to those they come in contact with. Using music, conversation, green tea, and miscellaneous."
